Privacy, in plain language.
Afterword is a private place for friends reading together. This notice describes the current development service.
Information the service uses
- Your account email and authentication records, managed through Supabase Auth.
- Your reader name, club membership, invitations and host role.
- Books, reading plans, discussions, replies, lounge messages and reactions you contribute.
- Your private chapter progress, saved discussions, reveal permissions and paper preference.
- Private blocks, reports and the content/context attached to a report, plus content-free moderation audit actions.
Who can see it
Current club members can access their club’s conversations, subject to chapter permissions and mutual blocks. Chapter progress and saved discussions are private. Club hosts manage books, invitations and membership; hosting does not bypass locked chapters or grant access to safety reports. Only the explicitly provisioned operator can review safety reports.
Providers and book search
Supabase provides authentication, database and server functions. The current project is hosted in US East (Northern Virginia). Resend delivers authentication emails. Open Library supplies public book metadata; book searches send the search query to that provider. Private club conversations are not used to generate AI themes. This static support site has no advertising or analytics scripts.
Storage and security
The native app stores session credentials using platform secure storage. The browser development preview keeps its session in memory. Private club access and chapter permissions are enforced by the backend. Device acceptance, recovery operations and security review remain launch gates; these controls are not an absolute security guarantee.
Keeping and deleting information
Club history remains until the relevant content or club is removed under the app’s rules. Leaving a club ends access but does not delete authored history. In-app account deletion removes identity and active app data under the disclosed deletion policy, including authored conversations, private state, personal block links and reports containing that reader’s content or authored notes.
Hosted clubs and their history are deleted when their host deletes their account. Replies by others to a deleted discussion are removed with the parent. Other clubs survive. Independently shared copies cannot be erased by Afterword. Backup and provider-log expiry and restoration deletion controls still require a final production policy.
